About the Artist

Anindita Biswas is the founder and creative force behind CalliScript, based in Mumbai, India. CalliScript celebrates the timeless beauty of fine penmanship and handmade art. A calligrapher, penwoman, and artist, Anindita combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities to create work that is both meaningful and enduring.

Her journey into calligraphy began during the pandemic, sparked by the rediscovery of an old journal. With no formal art training, she immersed herself in fine penmanship, gilding, illumination, and design, transforming a personal passion into a professional calling. She now receives commissions for handwritten calligraphy, bespoke wedding invitations, and distinctive keepsake artworks.

Anindita’s calligraphy has been featured on international platforms including IAMPETH, Calligraphy Masters, The Flourish Club, Calligraphers in India, and Indian Penmanship, and she has exhibited her work in national and international art shows. In 2025, she earned the prestigious IAMPETH Certificate of Proficiency in Spencerian Script. She has also been commissioned by Google for penmanship and worked with notable brands like Victoria’s Secret that showcases her skills on diverse surfaces beyond paper.

Alongside her creative practice, Anindita is deeply committed to teaching. She regularly conducts workshops that explore both traditional and contemporary aspects of calligraphy and design. One of her most cherished offerings is the Indian Motifs and Paisley Workshops, where she guides participants through the history and symbolism of the paisley motif, teaching them how to draw, ornament, and elevate it with calligraphy and gilding. For many students, it becomes a journey into cultural storytelling through art.

Her perspective is enriched by diverse life experiences travelling and living across 16 countries, fluency in six languages, and 17 years of training in Indian Classical Vocal music. Beyond her studio, she is the co-host of the Calligraphy Artists’ Club podcast, where she engages with fellow artists and explores the tradition and evolution of calligraphy.

At CalliScript, every creation, whether a commissioned artwork, a bespoke wedding suite, or a workshop experience is designed to bring back the nostalgia of the handmade. Anindita pours heart and soul into her work, making words and motifs not just beautiful, but unforgettable.
